Jan Broekstra
Jan Broekstra (1964 – 2019) bakte. Hij bakte porselein in zijn eigen oven. Hij bedacht hedendaagse varianten van traditioneel servies, zoals theeservies. Broekstra maakte ook lampen of andere gebruiksvoorwerpen. Hij blies glas in Tsjechië. Alles specifiek voor een plek of doel. De wijze waarop hij dit deed is echter zo uniek en autonoom, dat er geen sprake is van productie zoals je dat van een vormgever mag verwachten. Het zijn eerder kunstwerken waar je uit kunt drinken of bloemen in kunt zetten. Bij Broekstra is ieder stuk een stuk met een verhaal. Zoals de vazen die eigenlijk afkomstig zijn uit een enorme kroonluchter die hij eerder maakte. En om het plaatje compleet te maken: graag kookte hij erbij. Zodat je ook vanuit die hoek het verhaal kon proeven.

He blew glass in the Czech Republic. All specifically for a place or purpose. However, the way he did this is so unique and autonomous that there is no production as you might expect from a designer. Rather, they are works of art that you can drink from or put flowers in. For Broekstra, each piece is a piece with a story. Like the vases that actually came from an enormous chandelier he made earlier. And to complete the picture: he liked to cook. So that you could also taste the story from that angle.
