JOSEPH KLIBANSKY

Joseph Klibansky is in 1984 geboren in Kaapstad als zoon van een Zuid- Afrikaanse fotograaf. Hij heeft een Nederlandse moeder die als styliste werkt. De kunstwerken van Klibansky worden wereldwijd verkocht vanuit zijn eigen store in de P.C. Hooftstraat in Amsterdam. 

Ze weerspiegelen de wereld van nu en die van morgen. Hij laat zich inspireren door techniek, mode, design, architectuur, reizen en muziek. Klibansky gebruikt in zijn kunst vaak sprookjes- en stripfiguren, dieren en astronauten. Hij maakt  zowel vrij werk als werk in opdracht. Zo verzorgde hij vorig jaar bijvoorbeeld alle artwork voor de Alleen-tour van de populaire rapper Lil’Kleine.

Vanuit de tweedimensionale kunstwerken ontstaan zijn sculpturen. Een drinkend hertje in Garden of Evolution is de inspiratie geweest voor Reflections of Youth. Joseph: ‘Speelsheid is de rode draad in mijn werk. Ik heb zelf dat kinderlijke in me. Het enthousiasme waarmee een kind naar de wereld kijkt, dat hoop ik nooit te verliezen.’

Joseph Klibansky, son of a South African photographer, was born in Cape Town in 1984. His Dutch mother is a stylist. Klibansky sells his art to clients all over the world from his own store on P.C. Hooftstraat in Amsterdam. His work reflects the world of today and tomorrow, with inspiration drawn from technology, fashion, design, architecture, travel and music. Klibansky often uses fairytale or comic book characters, animals and astronauts in his work. He produces both commissioned and non-commissioned work. Last year, he supplied all the artwork for popular rapper Lil’Kleine’s Alleen tour.

His sculptures are created from two-dimensional artworks. Reflections of Youth was inspired by a drinking deer in Garden of Evolution. ‘Playfulness is the common theme in my work’, says Joseph. ‘I have that childlike thing in me. I hope I never lose the enthusiasm with which a child looks at the world.’
